Ultra Short Throw or UST projectors are gaining in popularity for 2-reasons. First, it is less invasive to have a projector and screen occupy roughly the same space. This means that nobody can walk between the projector and screen so additional “throw distance” and limitations on the use of your room during movie time are not a big deal. The second is that UST projectors and screens have become very affordable. What has not been affordable is an ALR / CLR (Ambient Light Rejecting / Ceiling Light Rejecting) screen that accommodates UST projectors. The discussion below covers all the bases in addition to providing links for the reader to learn more on the subject.

Transcripts:
- [17:39] Customer: What’s your most affordable screen material for an ultra-short throw projector?
- [17:39] Rick: We have a really nice fixed-frame screen that provides the necessary tension for use with UST projectors and it is very reasonably priced. It’s called the Sable Frame 2 Series. https://elitescreens.com/front/front/productdetail/product/48
- [17:40] Rick: Also, are you going to use is indoors or outdoors as well.
- [17:41] Customer: OK, thanks. So that’s a matte white screen. What about something designed specifically for a UST projector and has light rejection? It may be both inside and out, possibly portable, but really just want to best for a UST projector.
- [17:42] Rick: the best portable one will be this one. It’s our Yard Master 2 and it keeps the material taut enough to support UST projection. https://elitescreens.com/front/front/productdetail/product/235
- [17:45] Customer: Thanks- What about StarBright CLR? What is the price range for a 90″-100″ screen?
- [17:52] Rick: Yes, the full screen setup is called the Aeon CLR. This is a dedicated ultra-short throw projector screen that will combat ambient light but it is an indoor product. It has a higher price of around $850-$1200 but has done exceptionally well with customers. Online reviews have been fantastic.

- [17:53] Customer: OK, thanks. That’s the info I needed. Though quite a bit it’s still far less money than others I’ve found for the specific application.
- [17:54] Customer: is there a portable version?
- [17:55] Rick: Not yet. ALR screen materials are not as durable as the matte white screen materials that are folded up (or wadded up) and stuffed in the carrying case. Here is a good article on pairing UST projectors with projection screens. https://elitescreens.com/front/front/newsdetail/news/355
- [17:55] Customer: ok, thanks! The Aeon CLR is not terribly expensive so I am going to weigh in on whether or not I need to use it outdoors. I may decide on getting an Aeon CLR for the house and grab a lower cost Yard Master 2 for those backyard barbecue occasions.
- [17:56] Rick: I’m glad to help and it sounds like a plan. Please let me know if I can help you further as this comes along.
- [17:56] Customer: You bet. Thanks Rick.
- [17:56] Rick: My pleasure. Thank you for choosing Elite Screens.
