This customer has a lot of questions ranging from our edge-free frame screens to electric solutions and even ambient light rejecting materials.

*The discussion below is based on actual chat transcripts with the omission of any personal/confidential material to protect the customer’s privacy. An example in this case is to change the contact’s identification name/number to “Customer” or a generic name.

Transcripts:

  • [16:13]        Jaime Thank you for contacting Elite Screens, how may I help you?
  • [16:13] Customer: Do you make a retractable screen with the Cinegrey 3D material?
  • [16:13]        Jaime : Yes, we make a motorized screen with Cinegrey5D
  • [16:13]        Jaime : it is a higher reflective material
  • [16:14] Customer: Yeah, is it sparkly though?
  • [16:14] Customer: The 5D?
  • [16:14]        Jaime : There are other options but the Cinegrey 5D is ISF Certified.  This is the world-class organization that sets the benchmark and trains the network engineers of the film and television industries.
  • [16:14]        Jaime : We also have a 3D material
  • [16:15] Customer: I saw that the 120″ Starling with Cinegrey 5D goes for about $1300.
  • [16:15] Customer: How much is the white version of the Starling?
  • [16:17]        Jaime : that screen retails for $1249
  • [16:17] Customer: Okay, so they are close. Thanks.
  • [16:17] Customer: Is the Starling the cheapest ALR retractable screen that you sell?
  • [16:17]        Jaime : yes, and the only one we make although I would not say “cheap”  its inexpensive but we don’t trim the quality to do that.
  • [16:19] Customer: My viewing environment is a basement, with full blackout curtains on the windows, so there is no outside light, but I do have a white ceiling and white walls on the left and right sides of where my screen will go.
  • [16:19] Customer: Do you recommended a white screen or a Cinegrey screen for that environment?
  • [16:19]        Jaime : since you have the room blacked out, the set up will be easier with the white material
  • [16:19] Customer: The projector is a JVC DLA-X590R.
  • [16:19]        Jaime : no need to get an ALR screen
  • [16:20]        Jaime : the white material works with any projector but an ALR material like Cinegrey 3d or 5D really make a difference in the picture quality.
  • [16:21] Customer: Right now, I’m shooting against a white tablecloth. The blacks aren’t very good. I definitely see the white ceiling in the room.
  • [16:22]        Jaime : Calibrating your projector will help a little but an industry grade screen from an established manufacturer is still the best choice
  • [16:22]        Jaime : Here’s a link that will tell you more about your projector’s capabilities as well as information on selecting the right screen size to suit your projector’s throw distance. https://elitescreens.com/front/front/cms/slug/screen-calculator
  • [16:23] Customer: Understood.
  • [16:23] Customer: But when I have a white ceiling, is that considered “light controlled”…or is it only light controlled when you paint the ceiling a dark color?
  • [16:24] Customer: For instance, if the entire room and ceilings were painted black, a white screen would be the obvious choice.
  • [16:24] Customer: And for a room where the windows were wide open, I’d definitely need an ALR screen.
  • [16:25] Customer: But for my situation, I was wondering if the white ceiling is enough to warrant the need for ALR screen.
  • [16:26]        Jaime : not necessarily, but ultimately, the choice is yours to make on what material to use. If budget is not an issue, then by all means, the Cinegrey5D material will always be the best option whether the light in the room is controlled or not. Usually, when customers second guess the use of the motorized 5D screen, it will be due to the limit in funds
  • [16:27]        Jaime : if budget allows, go with the 5D. If it does not, then using the white material will also work.
  • [16:27]        Jaime : the difference is the amount of reflectivity
  • [16:27]        Jaime : in any theater room, the use of darker wall colors does enhance the contrast of a projected image, which I know you already knew
  • [16:28] Customer: With the 5D, I have some concerns on the sparkles in white scenes, and also on the viewing angle.
  • [16:28]        Jaime : this is why I state that using the white material will make your set up easier
  • [16:28]        Jaime : there is a formula that must be followed to project on a 5D screen
  • [16:28] Customer: Thanks. For the white screen option…what is the main difference between the Spectrum Tab Tension and the Starling? The Starling obviously costs more.
  • [16:30]        Jaime : the surface will be flatter on the Starling tab-tensioned model
  • [16:30]        Jaime : the material is of higher grade
  • [16:30] Customer: ok thanks
  • [16:31]        Jaime : The Spectrum won’t curl on the sides, but it won’t be as flat as the Starling
  • [16:31] Customer: ok, great. thanks for all of the help.
  • [16:32]        Jaime : sure thing
  • [16:32]        Jaime : thank you and have a good day
