What Screens Do Short Throw Projectors Work With

with No Comments

Ultra short throw projectors are a very specialized piece of gear for AV environments. Such a specialized piece of gear needs the right screen material or it’s not going to work. This discussion says a lot about UST projectors and the right materials to use with them.

*The discussion below is based on actual chat transcripts with the omission of any personal/confidential material to protect the customer’s privacy. An example in this case is to change the contact’s identification name/number to “Customer” or a generic name.

Transcripts:

  • [19:30]        Rick: hello, how may I help you.
  • [19:31] Customer: Hi… I’m wondering if the CineGrey5D material is compatible with Ultra short throw projectors…
  • [19:31] Customer: or, what options I might have for UST (ultra-short throw) that are retractable
  • [19:33]        Rick: no, this material’s ambient light reflective properties will filter out a UST projector. Here is a screen material that is specifically made for UST projectors.

  • [19:33]        Rick: This sheet is an example how it performs.

  • [19:35] Customer: Looks nice, but this is fixed frame, right?
  • [19:36]        Rick: The design has the same aesthetics as a flat panel TV and to date, needs to have perfect flatness to work right.  For that reason
  • [19:36] Customer: So Cinegrey materials are only good for long-throw projectors
  • [19:36] Customer: Correct?
  • [19:43]        Rick: That is correct.
  • [19:43]        Rick: Here is a video on how this screen performs in the day.  It is undoctored and sent in by one of our customers.
