How do I attach the bottom brackets of a fixed frame screen?

with No Comments

Many people don’t realize that a fixed frame projection screen has bottom brackets as well. These enable the installer to have a safe and stable installation that cannot be casually “bumped” off the wall by passing foot traffic. Here is an easy how-to discussion with convenient links attached.

Transcripts:

  • [22:36]        Rick: Hello, how may help you.
  • [22:36] Customer: I need your help to connect the screen on the bottom of the frame.
  • [22:36] Customer: We could secure the screen from the top but not from the bottom.
  • [22:37] Customer: Is there a special trick?
  • [22:39]        Rick: I’d be happy to help, which screen do you have?
  • [22:39] Customer: Sable frame B2 series
  • [22:40] Customer: Fixed frame screen
  • [22:40]        Rick: Once you have the top secure you will have to push down and flex the frame enough that the bottom lip of the frame will latch on.
  • [22:41] Customer: Okay, what if I’m afraid of damaging the screen when I do this?
  • [22:41] Customer: will it hold without the bottom?
  • [22:42]        Rick: Yes, it will hold. But sometimes, various building codes/directives may require for the screen to be secured at the top and bottom.
  • [22:42] Customer: So, are you saying I should remove the bottom plates?
  • [22:44]        Rick: I’m saying you can if you want to but it will only be as secure as a large picture frame hanging on the wall. For this reason, I recommend using both the top and bottom brackets. I believe that your bottom plates may have been installed too low. If you still want to mount the bottom frame you will need to shift the plate slightly upward to give you enough clearance to attach the bottom frame. If aligned correctly, the bottom span of the frame will gently flex just enough to accommodate the bottom bracket.
  • [22:45] Customer: That’s what we did. I just wanted to make sure.
  • [22:47]        Rick: Okay, good. I will be a tight fit but should require just a slight flex to do so. I recommend raising the bracket 3/16 of an inch.
  • [22:48] Customer: Okay, I appreciate the time. If you have any instructional links, can you send them to me? My email address is (———-)
  • [22:48]        Rick: It’s my pleasure to help.  I will send you a follow-up email with the links.
