This customer already has a good 16:9 HDTV projector but would like an appropriate Projection Screen to cover the in-wall speakers. This discussion shows the difference between a regular matte-white projector screen and an acoustically transparent screen.
Here are the links used in the discussion: Is there a special screen for in wall speakers?

Transcripts:
- [22:11] Rick: Hello, how may I help you.
- [22:13] Customer: We currently have a 150” (16:9) projection screen covering a spot where we would like to mount some in-wall speakers and would like to know what our options are.
- [22:15] Rick: Yes, I’d be glad to help. So, you trying to have the speakers behind the screen without affecting the sound?
- [22:15] Customer: Yes
- [22:15] Rick: Great. We do have a screen that is acoustic transparent and it would work nicely with your speakers.
- [22:16] Customer: The screen will cover only about a 2 ft x 3 ft section of the speakers. I assume we would need a screen the same size as the current screen and have the whole screen be acoustic transparent to avoid any seems in the screen.
- [22:17] Rick: Correct, I am looking for a screen that is about the same size that you currently have. Are you looking for a motorized or fix frame?
- [22:18] Customer: Fix frame. And I assume by acoustic transparent we are talking about a screen that allows sound to pass through the screen with maybe minimal sound reduction/distortion.
- [22:19] Rick: Correct. This will let the sound pass through with affecting the sound quality.
- [22:19] Customer: Affecting the sound quality in what way?
- [22:19] Rick: muffle or distort. When sound passes through any kind of fabric, the sound is diminished. With an acoustically transparent screen material, that reduction is minimized so all you get is good sound quality that is not perceptibly impeded.
- [22:21] Customer: Is the degree of “muffle” measured by decibels and if so, how much are we likely to experience.
- [22:21] Rick: Here is a model that closely fits your specific size. AR150H2-AUHD https://elitescreens.com/front/front/productdetail/product/360
- [22:23] Rick: If you use a standard screen material you will lose about 7 decibels. Since the acoustic material is specially woven to be porous for good sound penetration and but presents a solid projection surface that will not diminish the quality of your projected image.
- [22:23] Rick: Here is a great article on Acoustic Transparency https://elitescreens.com/front/front/newsdetail/news/268
- [22:24] Customer: Price for the screen? Price if you install?
- [22:28] Customer: I live in the Terre Haute, IN area. Any places around here with a similar screen I could see?
- [22:30] Rick: We just provide the screen this goes in our shop site for $1,126.50 but you may reach our sales team at [email protected] they will be happy to recommend an installer that may be near your area.
- [22:33] Customer: Thanks. I will check out the model you mentioned and get back to you or another member of the sales team.
