The Viewing Angle of CineGrey 3D®

with No Comments

Here is a customer shopping screen sizes and materials for a new media room she is in the process of setting up.  She asked great questions on the viewing angles of the Cinegrey 3D ALR screen materials as well as what size screen to get and how the various materials stack up against one another.

*The discussion below is based on actual chat transcripts with the omission of any personal/confidential material to protect the customer’s privacy.   An example in this case is to change the contact’s identification name/number   to “Customer” or a generic name.

Transcripts:

  •        Rick: Thank you for choosing Elite Screens, how may I help you.
  • Customer: What is the best material for ambient light, while still maintaining a wide viewing angle?
  • Customer: I was looking at CineGrey 5D and the 80 degree angle may work but do you have it a touch wider?
  •        Rick: the ALR material has a narrow viewing angle. The CineGrey 3D provides a 90 degree overall viewing angle.
  • Customer: Got it.  Is there any kind of “how to choose” article for screen materials?
  •        Rick: Yes, we have a great instructional video to help you along with making a good decision: https://elitescreens.com/elitetube/Selecting_a_screen_material_for_my_home_theater_cc_720.mp4
  • Customer: Thank you. Now, when it comes to screen size, what would be too big for my room
  • Customer: Can you give me a quick comparison on white, gray, and ALR projection screens?
  •        Rick: Certainly, I will list them below, and here is the video in selecting the right screen size: https://elitescreens.com/elitetube/screen_size_edu.mp4   Typically, I would recommend  keeping it within 100-120” unless the room is uncommonly large. Here are the material comparisons
    CineWhite – 1.1 gain 180 view angle
CineGrey (matte gray)- 1.0 gain 160 view angle
CineGrey 3D (ALR – Gray)- 1.2 gain 90-degree view angle
    CineGrey 5D – (ALR – Brighter- Gray) – 1.5 gain 80-degree view angle.
Have you selected a projector Yet?
  • Customer: Don’t have one yet, still in the design phase on a new construction home.
  • Customer: Another question, this is a sloped ceiling, so the screen would have to be mounted on the wall correct? you don’t have any electric screens that would work on a sloped ceiling, do you?
  •        Rick: We do have screens that can hang from the ceiling but mounting it to the wall would be sounder and less vulnerable to breeze, earthquakes, etc.
  • Customer: Sounds like you are in California also.  Yes, I agree that wall mounted would be more stable.
  • Customer: Okay, thanks for your help.
  •        Rick: My pleasure, Thank you for choosing Elite Screens.
